Pancreatic Cancer After Chronic Pancreatitis

Pancreatic Cancer After Chronic Pancreatitis

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg returned to the Supreme Court bench three weeks after surgery for pancreatic cancer. Ginsburg, who is 75, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in the beginning of this February and surgeons removed a small tumor that had not spread. Experts say she has a good chance of recovery.
Most Americans wish Justice Ruth Ginsburg good health, but what came to peoples mind, especially people with chronic pancreatitis, when they read this news?  "Thanks God, it is not me", "What can I do to avoid that?"
People who have chronic pancreatitis are at a higher risk of developing pancreatic cancer. On the contrary, improving the health of pancreas may help to prevent of developing pancreatic cancer.
The chain reaction: healthy pancreas, acute pancreatitis, chronic pancreatitis, pancreatic cancer, can be really slow down by changing life style and using alternative medicine.
The pancreas is a gland located behind the stomach. It is surrounded by the liver, stomach, gallbladder, and duodenum (small intestine). The pancreas has two most important functions. One is to produce pancreatic juice needed to neutralize stomach acids and break down food. The second is to produce hormones, such as insulin, which controls the level of glucose in the blood.
Pancreatic cancer occurs when abnormal, cancerous cells grow in the tissues of the pancreas mainly in the ducts that carry pancreatic juices. About 80% of pancreatic cancers occur in the "head" of the pancreas. This is the area where the common bile duct merges the pancreatic duct that carries the pancreatic juice with digestive enzymes from pancreas to the duodenum. Blend secretion of bile and pancreatic juice goes trough the opening with a muscles valve.
Spasm or blockage of this valve may cause back up of the pancreatic juice and increasing of pressure inside the pancreatic duct. Trapped inside the pancreas digestive enzymes start to digest their own pancreatic cells causing congestion, inflammation, pain, cysts and finally death of pancreatic tissue or pancreatic cancer.

The whole idea to help people with chronic pancreatitis is "open the gates", get rid of the blockages in proper moving of the bile and pancreatic juice, remove back up of the pancreatic juice. What may help this way to lower risk of pancreatic cancer?
  • Acupuncture can open passages and valves, normalize the function of liver, gallbladder and pancreas. Acupuncture improves microcirculation and immunity, decreases pain and congestion.
  • Proper organic healing diet decreases inner toxicity and irritation of the pancreas.
  • Herbs have a long history of using in people with pancreatic problems.
  • Nutritional supplements can decrease oxidative stress, inflammation, pain.
  • Drinking healing mineral water preparing from the Karlovy Vary Thermal Spring Salt can decrease acidity, decrease congestion and pancreatic juice's back up.
  • Regular exercises, chiropractic manipulations and point massage.
  • Avoid smoking, stop drinking alcohol by using HypnosisAcupuncture, etc.

Known Facts About Cancer A Fatal Disease

Known Facts About Cancer A Fatal Disease

Cancer is a disease in which certain body cells don't function right, divide very fast, and produce too much tissue that forms a tumor. Cervical cancer is cancer in the cervix, the lower, narrow part of the uterus (womb).

Cancer is not a single disease. There are more than 200 different types of cancer, each with its own "fingerprint," a unique combination of cellular patterns. Cancer is a process with many steps. The first step involves changes to the genetic code (DNA) of a cell called initiation .

Cancer is found only in the innermost layer of the stomach wall. They produce and store infection-fighting cells.) -sample text truncated- Treatment Overview -- How cancer of the stomach is treated -- There are treatments for most patients with cancer of the stomach. Cancer is a big money maker for fools like coburn, thats why he doesnt want a cure.

He is only a right to lifer for babies after that we can all get cancer for all he cares. Cancer is caused by a series of mutations, or alterations, in genes that control cells' ability to grow and divide. Some mutations are inherited; others arise from environmental factors such as smoking or exposure to chemicals, radiation, or viruses that damage cells' DNA.

Cancer is a group of more than 100 different diseases that are due to abnormal growth of body cells. The human body is made up of billions of tiny cells that reproduce themselves by dividing.

Cancer is the result of uncontrolled cell growth . A normal cell contains factors which tell it when to divide. Cancer is humbling because it makes you realise how little you really control. I ran around like a self-important guard dog for years, yapping and jumping and fretting, thinking I really made things happen. Cancer is expected to become the nation's biggest killer within a decade, surpassing heart disease.

Women can get blood tests to find known cancer genes, including the BRCA1 or BRCA2 mutations, whose carriers face a lifetime cancer risk of up to 65 percent. But researchers believe there are others that have not yet been confirmed. Women over 70 are encouraged to make their own appointment. Women aged 65 and over who have never had a test are entitled to one.

Researchers have found that it takes a series of genetic changes to create a lung cancer cell. Before becoming fully cancerous, cells can be precancerous, which means they have some irregularities (mutations) but still function as lung cells.

Research has shown, for example, that breast cancer in older women is more benign and less aggressive than in younger women. With younger women, you might have to take the preventative measure of removing more tissue than with older women. Research about the cancer, its treatment, and long term effects is encouraged. Arthur Herbst and the registry for clear cell cancer at the University of Chicago.

Tumor cells from patients who develop secondary resistance to a drug like Tarceva after an initial response on therapy did not have mutations in KRAS. The story is the same as for Erbitux and Iressa. Tumors can be benign (not cancer) or malignant (cancer).

Diseases Of The Prostate Gland

Diseases Of The Prostate Gland

Prostate is a glandular organ present only in males. It surrounds the neck of bladder and the first part of urethra and contributes a secretion to the semen. The gland is conical in shape and measures 3 cm in vertical diameter and 4 cm in transverse diameter.

Common Diseases of the prostate glands are:

Prostatitis: This is the inflammation of the prostate gland due to bacterial infection.
Benign enlargement of the prostate: This is a non cancerous tumor of the prostate seen after the age of 50.
Cancer of the prostate: This is the 4th most common cause of death from malignant diseases in males.

Prostate Cancer: Prostate Cancer is directly linked with the male sex hormones - Androgens. If the levels of sex hormone increases the growth rate of cancer also increases. It is found that after the removal of testes there is marked reduction in the size of tumor. Prostate cancer is mainly found in the posterior lobe. The gland becomes hard with irregular surface with loss of normal lobulation. Histologically prostate cancer is an adenocarcinoma.

Growth of Prostate Cancer: Growth rate is very fast in prostate cancer. The tumor compresses the urethra and produce difficulty in urination. Metastasis in cancer of prostate is very early. From the posterior lobe the cancer cells go to the lateral lobes and seminal vesicles. Tumor cells also move to the neck and base of the urinary bladder. Cancer cells reach the internal and external illiac group of lymph nodes through the lymph vessels. From there cells move to retroperitoneal (Behind the peritoneum) and mediastinal lymph nodes (in the chest). Spreading of cancer cells take place through the periprostatic venous plexus and reaches the vertebral veins while coughing and sneezing and finally enders the vertebral bodies of the lumbar vertebrae.

Signs and symptoms depend upon the stage of the cancer. The following symptoms may be seen:

No symptoms: Tumor is small and only in the posterior lobe. This is diagnosed accidentally.

Slight difficulty in urination: Here the tumor is enlarged and urethra is slightly compressed. Shortly there will be frequent urge for urination with difficult urination. When the tumor spread to all nearby areas including neck of bladder and urethra there will be painful urination with bleeding. Urine may come out drop by drop.

Retention of urine: When the urethra is completely compressed there will be retention of the urine. This can may lead to hydronephrosis, renal failure etc. In this condition patient may get convulsions due to renal failure and finally to coma.

Causes Of Thyroid Nodules

Causes Of Thyroid Nodules

The thyroid gland consists of two lobes that look similar to the wings of a butterfly. The thyroid is able to absorb iodine from food you consume. It is the only gland in your body that can do this. Your thyroid takes the iodine and uses it to produce two main hormones, triiodothyronine also known as T3 and thyroxine known as T4. These are the hormones that regulate the rate that your body uses carbohydrates and lipids or fats. The thyroid also helps control body temperature, heart rate, as well as the creation of proteins. Calcitonin, yet another hormone the thyroid manufactures, is a hormone that regulates calcium level in the blood.

Though we have no definitive knowledge as to the cause of most nodules and their onset, it has been found that there a certain factor that are associated with the onset. The list includes:
-Low amount of iodine in the diet

-Hashimoto's disease, associated with hypothyroidism

-Genetic defect in the receptors responsible for releasing TSH or thyroid-stimulating hormone

-Radiation treatments that were undergone at an early age such as in child hood to the head or neck area

Various Nodule Types

There are different types of nodules that may develop in the thyroid gland:
Colloid nodule - The type of nodule is noncancerous or benign. It manifests itself as an overgrowth of normal thyroid tissue. It is possible to have one colloid nodule or several. Though it is possible for these nodules to become larger in size, they do not spread to other parts of the body and are contained only in they thyroid gland.

Follicular adenoma - This nodule type is also noncancerous or benign.

Thyroid cyst - These can be benign or malignant depending. These are fluid-filled areas of the thyroid glands that can differ in size. They can measure from less than 1/3 of an inch in diameter to over one 1 inch. Thyroid cysts are usually filled with fluid. Some thyroid cysts have solid components. These are called complex cysts. Fluid-filled cysts are generally benign. Complex cysts can at times be malignant.

Inflammatory nodule - This nodule type may at times develop resulting from chronic inflammation of the thyroid. This condition is called thyroiditis. There is a rare form of thyroiditis called subacute thyroiditis, which is accompanied by severe pain within the thyroid gland. There are other types of thyroiditis that are painless and sometimes happen after pregnancy. This is called postpartum thyroiditis.

Thyroid cancer - There is only a small chance that nodules are cancerous if a physician determines that you have any. If you have a family history of thyroid cancer or any endocrine cancer, you will be at higher risk. Also, if you are a man younger than 30 years of age or older than 60 years of age, with a history of head or neck radiation, you would also be at risk. Cancerous nodules are generally large in size and firm to the touch often causing neck discomfort and/or pain.

Multinodular goiter - "Goiter" refers to any enlargement in the thyroid gland. The appearance of several nodules can lead to a goiter. This is referred to as multinodular goiter. This condition causes tightness in the throat accompanied by difficulty in swallowing and breathing.

Hyperfunctioning thyroid nodule (toxic adenoma, toxic multinodular goiter, Plummer's disease) - TSH is released by the pituitary gland, which regulates the production of thyroid hormones. Hyperfunctioning thyroid nodules that become larger and actually produce thyroid hormones separate from the influence of TSH or thyroid-stimulating hormone. Hyperfunctioning thyroid nodules create a situation where there are high blood levels of thyroxine accompanied by low or even nonexistent levels of TSH. A genetic defect of TSH receptors may be a reason for overactivity of nodules.

The Risk Factors

Thyroid nodules are quite common. In fact, up to 50% of people may have one. The exact cause of thyroid nodules is still unknown although there are some factors that seem to increase the risk of having one. This includes:
Heredity - Family history such as the existence of nodules in parents or in siblings tends to put an individual at a higher risk of developing nodules.

Age - The chances of developing thyroid nodules grow higher as you increase in age. Changes may happen in your thyroid as part of the aging process.

Gender - Statistically, women are more likely to develop thyroid nodules when compared to men.
Exposure to radiation - In the 1940s and 50s, many persons were often treated with radiation for conditions that were noncancerous such as in the case of acne or enlarged tonsils. If you, as a child, experience this type of treatment or experienced any therapy employing the use of radiation to your neck or head for the conditions mentioned above, then you have a higher risk of developing thyroid nodules. You would also be at a higher risk if you were exposed to radioactive particles that became airborne during any atomic weapons testing or if you were exposed to radiation resulting from a nuclear power plant accident.

Specific thyroid conditions - If you’ve had thyroiditis or a chronic inflammation of the thyroid gland, this would also put you at higher risk.

What Are The Complications?

In general, thyroid nodules are non-cancerous or benign, but at times, they can lead to serious problems. Larger nodules or a number of nodules appearing together can lead to multinodular goiter. This condition can interfere with swallowing or breathing. In can become even more of a serious problem when these nodules or goiter produces thyroid hormone, which can lead to hyperthyroidism.
Along with assorted symptoms such as unexplained weight loss, muscle fatigue, intolerance to heat, and high anxiety, hyperthyroidism can lead to other complications:
Heart-related complications - This type of complication includes a rapid heartbeat, heart rhythm disorder and even congestive heart failure. Congestive heart failure is the condition of the heart being no longer strong enough to circulate blood throughout the body.

Osteoporosis - This is when your bones become weak and brittle due to a lack of calcium. The overall health of bones depends to a certain extent on the amount of calcium and minerals found in them. An excess of thyroid hormone or hyperthyroidism, can disrupt the incorporation of calcium into the bones. In the situation where a patient develops hyperthyroidism, the bones are the first to display the sign or symptoms of the disorder before anything else. This is the case with postmenopausal women who are in the group of individuals with a high risk of developing osteoporosis.

Thyrotoxic crisis - This is the term used to describe the sudden and possibly life threatening intensify of the above signs and symptoms. This requires immediate medical care should this occur.

Thyroid and breast adenomas

Thyroid and breast adenomas

Thyroid adenoma is a benign tumor of the thyroid gland. There are no known causes of this disease, but a role is assigned to hyperproduction of thyrotropin and regional sympathetic innervations damage. After histological structure differ: macrofollicular adenoma, trabecular adenoma and microfollicular adenoma.
The most frequently is macrofollicular adenoma. It shows a cystic structure and is composed of large follicles, which contain a significant amount of colloid. Microfollicular adenoma is covered by a fibrous capsule and contains a small amount of colloid. Trabecular adenoma consists of  trabecular epithelial cords.

Symptoms
Characteristic signs of thyroid adenomas include a feeling of pressure in the neck, dysphagia and dyspnea. On palpation it notices a firm, elastic and mobile formation, adhering to surrounding tissues. In the case of a long evolution, adenoma can calcify and ossify. There are several possible complications, such as bleeding in the adenoma, intranodular hematoma infection, toxic nodular goiter development and malignization.
Diagnosis and treatment
In most cases, thyroid adenoma is discovered incidentally or in a prophylactic control. It is necessary to determine the duration of the disease evolution, growth speed and mobility adenoma. To diagnose thyroid adenoma are performed serological tests, scanning, ultrasound, x-ray examination, and biopsy.
X-ray shows calcification adenoma, moving trachea or esophagus. The ultrasound diagnosis is determining whether node. In case of malignancy is recommended biopsy by puncture.
Based treatment for thyroid adenoma is surgery.
Breast adenoma (fibroadenoma)
Mammary glands (breasts) are made up of ducts and lobes that are surrounded by glandular tissue and supporting tissue (rich in elastic fibers). Breast fibroadenoma consists of excessive growth of the tissue, the form of small spheres - node. Breast fibroadenoma is benign and therefore does not increase breast cancer development risk.
Fibroadenoma appearance is determined by increased levels of estrogen in the body. It has a smooth texture, is well defined and can cause slight discomfort.
Most have a size of about 1-3 cm, and when exceeding 5 cm are called giant fibroadenoma. Fibroadenomas usually keep their size, and over time, some may shrink and others may disappear. Occasionally they grow in size, especially in teenagers, pregnant or nursing. Fibroadenoma diagnosed in teenagers called juvenile fibroadenoma.
 Symptoms and causes
Fibroadenoma is the most common benign tumor of the breast in young women. Usually, they are spherical, mobile and smooth. A fixed formation can be diagnosed as breast malignant tumor.  Fibroadenoamas in young women are clear defined, and in older women may be calcified. 15% of cases, fibroadenomas are many and are present in both breasts. Because of sensitivity to estrogen, fibroadenoma may increase in size towards the end of menstruation or during pregnancy. After menopause, many of them disappear spontaneously due to lower estrogen levels. Followed by hormone replacement therapy in postmenopausal women can prevent reduction of fibroadenomas. Usually increase in size of these benign formations is not painful, but the size and location can cause breast tenderness or pain.
Fibroadenomas frequently occur in women breasts who have 15-30 years and in pregnant women.  They occur with less frequency in postmenopausal women unless following hormone replacement therapy with estrogen. About 10% of fibroids disappear in time, but 20% of them are recurrent.
Breast cancer and fibroadenoma complications
A low percentage of patients with breast fibroadenoma have an increased risk of developing breast cancer because of it, rarely being identified cancer cells in biopsy samples of fibroadenoma. Fibroadenoma complications are infrequent. Biopsy and surgical removal of fibroadenomas, like any other surgical procedure, involves the risk of bleeding, scarring and postoperative infection. After removing node it may recur in the same location. The risk of breast cancer depends on the type of fibroadenoma.
Most fibroadenomas are simple: their mass is distinct and cells have uniform appearance. They favor breast cancer, especially if there is family history that includes the presence of this
disease.
Complex fibroadenomas include breast cysts and breast lobes increased in size and features pieces of opaque and dense tissue - calcification. Complex fibroadenomas not evolve to breast cancer, but some patients may favor its appearance. However, the risk of breast  ancer is low even after the diagonstication of complex fibroadenoma.

Breast Cancer and Thyroid Disorders - How Does a Thyroid Affect Your Breasts?

Breast Cancer and Thyroid Disorders - How Does a Thyroid Affect Your Breasts?

It is no secret that breast cancer is dependent on hormones. There are studies that show that thyroid disorders are common in patients with this type of cancer as well as conflicting reports of their connection in literature. Although it has been linked to hyperthyroidism, hypothyroidism, thyroiditis, and nontoxic goiter in the past, no existing evidence has been made over the role of thyroid function in breast carcinoma. However, recent studies show that there is much more going on between the cancer of the breast and thyroid function indeed.

A Possible Connection
The differences in dietary iodine have been known to cause the geographical variations in the incidence of breast   and a relationship between cancer of the breast and iodine has been hypothesized by several authors. The probable interconnection between the thyroid gland and breast tissue are based on the ability of the mammary and thyroid gland to concentrate iodine by a membrane transport mechanism. It has also been hypothesized that thyroid antibodies exert an effect on the breast as well as the thyroid, hence, the incidence of these two occurring together.
Another study observed the high incidence of autoimmune hypothyroidism in cases of patients with cancer of the breasts, as confirmed by antibody positivity in patients and a relationship between the two has been reported. The patients were also found to have higher levels of thyroid antibodies. Using specific assays for thyroid peroxidase and thyroglobulin antibodies, patients were observed to have higher levels of thyroid peroxidase antibodies.
It has also been hypothesized that thyroid function may have a hand in the progression of this particular type of cancer. The main observation of this postulation is that patients with higher levels of thyroid peroxidase were most likely to recover from the cancer. Furthermore, it was hypothesized that the immunologic responses of the patient might be directed at both the breast tumor and the thyroid gland or that both the tumor and thyroid gland express the same properties such that the immune response against the tumor will have an effect on the thyroid gland as well. However, there is no consistency on the significance of thyroid peroxidase activity on cancer and a clear agreement between the two has not yet been reached.
There have also been studies of the prevalence of breast carcinoma in patients with chronic thyroiditis. In another study conducted by Ito Maruchi, patients with Hashimoto's thyroiditis had an increased risk of developing the particular cancer than other people without Hashimoto's thyroiditis.
Patients were found to have higher levels of thyroid peroxidase antibodies, although their thyroglobulin antibodies were hardly abnormal. Nodular goiter is also a common occurrence in patients with cancer of the breasts. Abnormal thyroid gland characteristics were also observed in the patients.
However, a definite agreement between thyroid disorders and breast cancers is yet to be reached. Yet knowing the statistics and the odds, it would be well for patients with thyroid disorders to be more observant of breast changes. Self breast examinations or SBE and regular checkups are still commendable for women aged 40 and above and even younger for women with a history of cancer, especially of the breast, up in the family tree.

Thyroid Cancer Occurs In All Age Groups

Thyroid Cancer Occurs In All Age Groups

Thyroid cancer is a fairly common malignancy which can occur in any age group especially in people who have had radiation therapy in the neck area, although it is most common after age 30 and its aggressiveness increases significantly in older patients. Thyroid cancer develops in your thyroid, a butterfly-shaped gland located at the base of your neck, just below your Adams apple.

Types of Thyroid Cancer
Thyroid cancers are divided into papillary carcinomas, follicular carcinomas, medullary thyroid carcinomas (MTCs), anaplastic carcinomas, primary thyroid lymphomas, and primary thyroid sarcomas.

Papillary tumours account for half of all thyroid cancers in adults, it is most common in young adult females. Follicular carcinomas are less common but more likely to recur and metastasize to the regional nodes and through blood vessels into the bones, liver and lungs. Medullary carcinoma is a rare familial cancer which is completely curable if detected before it causes symptoms. The least common type of thyroid cancer is anaplastic which has a very poor prognosis. Anaplastic thyroid cancer tends to be found after it has spread and is not cured in most cases

Causes of Thyroid Cancer
Predisposing factors include; radiation exposure, prolonged thyroid stimulating hormone exposure, familial predisposition and chronic goiter.

Signs and Symptoms
The primary signs of thyroid tumors are: a painless nodule, a lump or swelling in the neck sometimes growing rapidly, a pain in the front of the neck sometimes going up to the ears, hoarseness or other voice changes that do not go away, trouble swallowing, breathing problems, a cough that continues and is not due to a cold.

Diagnosis
The first clue is usually an enlarged palpable nodule in the thyroid gland, neck, lymph nodes of the neck, or vocal chords. Tests must rule out non malignant thyroid enlargements which are much more common. Thyroid scans measure the ability of the nodules to trap isotopes in comparison to the rest of the thyroid. Other tests include CT scans, biopsy and ultrasonic scans.

Treatment
Treatment options may include surgery to remove the thyroid gland and nearby lymph nodes, chemotherapy, radiation therapy and hormone therapy. Anaplastic cancer patients often require a tracheostomy during the treatment and treatment is much more aggressive than for other types of thyroid cancer.

Radioactive Iodine is given to the patient with thyroid cancer after their cancer has been removed because if there are any thyroid cancer cells remaining in the body then these cells will absorb and concentrate the radioactive poisonous iodine.

Prognosis
The survival rate for patients with papillary tumors which have not spread is excellent.
Medullary cancer of the thyroid is significantly less common, but has a worse prognosis.

Thyroid Cancer – Causes and Symptoms of Thyroid Cancer

Thyroid Cancer – Causes and Symptoms of Thyroid Cancer

Thyroid cancer can occur in any age group, although it is most common after age 30 and its aggressiveness increases significantly in older patients. The majority of patients present with a nodule on their thyroid which typically does not cause symptoms. Remember, over 99% of thyroid nodules are not cancer! But, when a thyroid cancer does begin to grow within a thyroid gland, it almost always does so within a discrete nodule within the thyroid.

The thyroid gland is located on the anterior aspect (front) of the neck. It can be felt just below the thyroid cartilage, or "Adam's apple". It is a butterfly shaped organ that stretches across the midline of the neck just below the Adam's apple, with its "wings" spreading superiorly (towards the head) on either side of the Adam's apple. These "wings" are called the lobes of the thyroid, with the portion extending across midline called the isthmus. As an endocrine gland, the thyroid gland produces and secretes thyroid hormones into the bloodstream.

Thyroid cancer develops in your thyroid, a butterfly-shaped gland located at the base of your neck, just below your Adam's apple. Although your thyroid gland is small, it produces hormones that regulate every aspect of your metabolism, from your heart rate to how quickly you burn calories. Your thyroid is a butterfly-shaped gland in your neck, just above your collarbone. It makes hormones that help the body work normally. Anyone can get cancer of the thyroid gland. But certain factors may increase the risk.

Causes of Thyroid Cancer

Most cases occur between 25 and 65 years of age, and the age at diagnosis is one of the most important factors in predicting prognosis. Men under 40 and women under 50 have significantly lower rates of recurrence and better survival rates than older persons.

Thyroid cancer is more common in people who have a history of exposure of the thyroid gland to radiation, have a family history of
thyroid cancer, and are older than 40 years of age. However, for most patients, we do not know the specific reason why they develop thyroid
cancer.

Papillary and follicular cancers develop in follicle cells. They account for the great majority of thyroid cancers, can usually be completely removed with surgery and generally result in an excellent prognosis. Medullary cancer, on the other hand, arises in the thyroid's C cells and is generally more aggressive and harder to treat than papillary and follicular cancers are.

Symptoms of Thyroid Cancer

Pain in the throat or neck that may extend to the ears.
A lump at the base of your neck
A hoarse voice that does not get better
Sore throat or difficulty swallowing that does not get better
A lump elsewhere in your neck
Nodules should be of particular concern when they are found in children or those under the age of 20. The presentation of benign nodules at this age is less likely, and thus the potential for malignancy is far greater.
Most thyroid lumps are not cancer. It is not unusual for older people to have small lumps in their thyroid glands called nodules. As many as 9 out of 10 women over 70 will have these. Only about 1 in 20 thyroid lumps are cancer. An enlarged thyroid gland that is not cancer is sometimes called a goitre.
