Causes, symptoms of Thyroidcancer and its types
Thyroid cancer is most common after age 30 and it can occur in any age group and it aggressively increases in older patients. A nodule which is presented on their thyroid does not cause any symptom typically and 99 percent of thyroid nodules are not cancer. But when it begins to grow with the gland, it does discrete with the thyroid nodule.
The thyroid gland is situated in front of the neck on the anterior aspect. It can be felt just below the Adam's apple or the thyroid cartilage. It's an organ shaped like a butterfly that stretches across the midline of the neck with its wings spreading towards the head on the side of the thyroid cartilage. These wings are known as thyroid lobes, which extends across midline called as the isthmus. As an endocrine gland, the thyroid gland secrets and produces hormones into the bloodstream.
This cancer develops in your thyroid which is located in the base of your neck. Although the gland is tiny, it can produce hormones that regulate all metabolism aspect from how quickly you burn calories to your heart rate. Just above the collarbone, your thyroid is located. It makes your hormones that help your body normally. Anyone can get this cancer, but there is a certain risk involved.
Causes of thyroid cancer
Thyroid occurs mostly between 25 to 60 of age, and the age of diagnosis is the most important factor to consider. Men below 40 years and women under 50 will have lower rates significantly and better survival than older patients.
Symptoms of thyroid cancer
• Pain in the neck or throat that extends to the ears
• A lump in the neck
• A sore throat or difficulty in swallowing
• A hoarse voice
• A lump near your neck
Only about one in twenty thyroid lumps are cancerous. An enlarged gland that is not cancer is called a goitre, which can be treated easily.
Types of Thyroid cancer
Thyroid cancer includes papillary cancer, medullary cancer, Ana plastic cancer and follicular cancer.
Papillary cancer
The most common type of thyroid cancer is the Papillary. 6 people out of 10 are diagnosed with this type of cancer. It is common and affects women and younger people, which spreads to the neck and lymph of the body. It tends to grow slowly and can be treated if it's detected in the early stage.
Follicular stage
The follicular stage is diagnosed in middle and young aged people. About fifteen percent of thyroid cancers are on follicular stage and spreads to the other parts of the body such as lymph and bone.
Medullary cancer
About 10 to 15 percent of thyroid cancer is Medullary cancer. It is treated easily if found at the earliest stage. It arises from the C cell and not from the follicular cell.
Ana plastic cancer
Ana plastic cancer affects only 2 percent of people. It is difficult to recognize and arises in the follicular cell.
